Docks in the San Juans booked to be removed

James Island State Park docks

Time is running out for cruisers who would rather tie up to the docks at James Island State Park than anchor off.

Cruisers have just a couple more weeks this autumn to tie up at state park docks at Sucia, Matia, Jones and James islands in the San Juan Islands.

Depending on the weather, state crews are scheduled to remove the docks during the week of Oct. 27-30 to protect them from winter storms.

Fortunately for cruisers who prefer the late-year conditions, the four parks all have protected mooring buoys or anchorage nearby.

(Sucia Island, Matia Island, Jones Island and James Island marine parks are all covered in Salish Sea Pilot’s Cruising Guide to the San Juan Islands.)
