Customs services cut back

Two months after Canada closed all US border crossings to non-essential travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canada Border Services Agency announced on Tuesday (May 12) it was temporarily suspending service at 342 marinas and 126 small airports across Canada.

This includes 29 airports and 17 marinas in BC.

Four commercial ferry terminals — the Alaska State Ferry Terminal in Prince Rupert, Washington State Ferry Terminal in Sidney, and the Blackball Terminal and Belleville Terminal in Victoria — have also suspended services between Canada and the United States.

The closures are being carried out to support the federal government’s objective to have all inbound travellers assessed for symptoms of COVID-19. The CBSA is redirecting air and marine traffic to ports of entry where the agency maintains a presence.
