Narrow escape at Patos Island

Reading Doug Bostrom’s account of his sloop Kallisto’s near disaster at a popular anchorage in the Boundary Islands, we can’t help but think of the many tiny anchorages and coves we have inspected under power without considering that a simple engine hiccup or rope around the propeller might set off a series of events that could endanger us and our boat.

Each time we reconnoiter one of these little bays or narrow channels in the future, it will be hard not to think about Bostrom’s narrow escape from Active Cove at Patos Island. His story appears in Three Sheets Northwest
