One person was killed and two hospitalized when an explosion and fire destroyed the fuel dock and at least three vessels on Sunday (May 10) at North Saanich Marina in Tsehum Harbour near Sidney.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but does not appear suspicious, police said. The RCMP’s explosive disposal unit and underwater recovery team, which will look for evidence in the water, were on the scene on Monday.

Thick, dark smoke billowed into the sky from the fire, which smoldered for hours.
