Crabs dress to the nines
The photos, collected over years diving the waters of the northeast Pacific, provide a window into the world of this flamboyant crab which dresses up in bits of whatever it can pluck from its surroundings to camouflage itself from predators.
As well, covering themselves with sponges and other noxious fare makes the Decorator Crab a most unappetizing snack for the birds, fish and octopuses which might normally dine on them.
