BC to clean up coast
The BC government this week announced it will fund a summer cleanup project to remove tons of fishing debris and plastic from along the coast as the pandemic continues to derail the province’s tourism sector.
The province will spend $9.5-million to reduce pollution in sensitive marine ecosystems, create jobs and support local communities and First Nations. Four projects will cover 1,200 kilometres of coastline, as well as remove more than 100 derelict vessels from the waters around southern Vancouver Island and increase capacity to reuse the recovered plastic.
